Its been super busy for me lately. Its another semester here at NMU and I am taking 18 credits while working part time. I am currently enrolled in Art History: Renaissance to Modern, where we survey various different art works and artists throughout the history since the Renaissance. Within each period that we are going through, we see and learn about the techniques and popular views/styles of the time that best signify its entirety. Its really fun, but super easy. We just had a test and I didn't even crack open my book and passed with a 90% by just going to class and listening to lectures. But now that I have the book, I do plan on going through it and learning even more, besides it is my major and I should know this stuff.
My next class is Modern art which is a very interesting class and possibly my favorite class of this semester. Again, it is a survey class but the professor has such passion for what he is talking about that it is very interesting indeed. Currently we are talking about Van Gogh, Gauguin, and Seraut.
Next up is Spanish, and that is a super easy class. I already know some French so Spanish is coming very easy for me. In fact, I've decided one of my life goals is to learn all of the Romance languages fluently! GO ME!
My last class is Methods and Theories of Art History. It is a required class for my major that goes through all of the theories and ways of looking at and describing art. It is mostly a debate and writing class where in class we debate different topics and theories and learn more theories/styles. Then we usually go home and every week (or every other week in some cases) write a paper on an art piece using a specific theory. Last week was a formal analysis essay that I did on the Victory of Samothrace, a statue found in Samothrace, Greece. It is one of my all time favorite art pieces and I thoroughly enjoyed staring at it for 2-3 hours while formally describing it. Up next is a critical/symbolist analysis that I plan on doing The Swing, by Jean Honore Fragonard.
I am also doing an internship for the Hiawatha National Forest Service with this really cool guy named Eric. I met him at the Midwest Archaeologist Conference last October where he invited me to come and do the internship. I love it so far. We sit there for about 5 hours and talk Archaeology. We do a lot of hands on activities and we also have a lot of fun joking and messing with each other. And the best part is, that I get to do this every semester that I want. Its amazing and I plan to do this until I graduate. Plus, it looks great on resume!
I am still working at the Archaeology lab which is same old same old. The only difference is I am time crunched for a lot of stuff and I dont have time to do it all with the constraints of my school work.
The Native American's POW WOW is coming up along with All Nations Club's International Food Festival. Both of which, I am in charge of the feast/food. It is very fun and very delicious food, but man, what a headache.
Some friends and I have decided to get a house next semester and move in with each other. We are still looking and have come across many annoying bumps along the way. But alas, wish us luck! We shall not fail!
Just looking over this post, I am tired and worn out. I am doing so much this semester that I really dont have to eat, sleep, or even breathe. I cannot wait until summer where I can be on a beautiful island enjoying a leisurely life for a brief interval.
Love, peace, and Lust!!!!
